Stomis chinensis Jedlička, 1932

Loc. typ.: Sichuan, Jinfu-Shan.

This species has been described upon a single specimen declared to be a female, but Lassalle (2003) has been able to find the type specimen of this species noting that it is a male and showing that the interpretation of this species as proposed in my former revision (1998) had been incorrect. The true Stomis chinensis (Holotype in Fig. 27 ) is a species very similar to S. facchinii , but different in some characters well documented by Lassalle (2003). The species mentioned as S. chinensis in Sciaky (1998) is here described in the next pages as S. bousqueti .

S. chinensis is sympatric with S. jani , herewith described, on the Jinfu Shan mountain. S. chinensis is immediately recognizable in its convex body and black color. Stomis jani shows different proportions of the elytra, larger size, more convex elytra and deeper elytral striae. Furthermore, it does not have the notch in the right mandible, which is observable in S. chinensis .

To my knowledge, S. chinensis has never been collected again after its discovery. The Mount Jinfu-Shan, the highest peak of Dalou Mountains, located in the upper reach of the Yangtze River , is situated in Nanchuan District , within the Municipality of Chongqing . Since 1997, in fact, this area does not belong any longer to the Sichuan region, but it is a part of the Municipality of Chongqing.

Description. Habitus as in Fig. 27 . The combination of characters allowing to distinguish this species are: length 8 mm; integuments metallic reddish, sometimes with very faint metallic green hue on elytra, rather dull; body rather convex ( Fig. 27 ); legs and antennae brownish, sometimes paler, rather short and robust; head broad, with mandibles nearly as long as the rest of the head; pronotum anteriorly broad, with lateral margins markedly constricted and very shortly sinuate towards the base; elytra rather narrow, oval, with striae rather shallow, slightly shallower towards the sides; shoulders angulose and with a small but evident tooth. Median lobe of aedeagus with apical portion almost as long as basal portion; in lateral view subsinuate before apex, in dorsal view constricted and short, and with a very small tooth on the left side ( Lassalle 2003: fig. F). Ratios: El/Pl = 2.24; Ew/Pw =1.31; El/Ew = 1.47.
