Coccura circumscripta (Kiritshenko) View in CoL

( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 , distribution map Fig. 66 J View FIGURE 66 )

Mediococcus circumscriptus Kiritshenko 1936: 144 View in CoL . Coccura transcaspica Borchsenius, 1949: 304 View in CoL .

Field characteristics: Body of adult female dark brown, up to 2.2 mm long (Danzig 2012).

Microscopic diagnosis: Slide-mounted adult female broadly oval, with head and prothorax tapering anteriorly. Antennae each with 8 segments. Anal lobes not developed. Legs developed but small for body size; hind leg without translucent pores; targal digitules each pointed at tip and shorter than claw; claw with a small denticle. Cerarii numbering 2 pairs; anal lobe cerarii (C 18) each with 2 large lanceolate setae and 1‒3 pores; C 17 represented by a single smaller lanceolate seta. Circuli numbering 3, situated on midline. Only posterior ostioles present, each lip without pores or setae. Anal ring situated on dorsum, slightly anterior to posterior margin of body, the ring containing incomplete rows of pores and spinulae and shortened setae ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 ).

Dorsum with small lanceolate setae. Multilocular pores absent. Trilocular pores and discoidal pores sparsely scattered. Oral collar tubular ducts, smaller than those on venter, present near margins.

Venter with small stiff setae. Multilocular disc pores each with seven loculi, present on median areas of posterior abdominal segments. Quinquelocular pores present on thorax and abdominal segments, somewhat concentrated near each spiracular opening. Trilocular pores scattered on margins. Bottle-shaped tubular ducts longer than those on dorsum, scattered.

Distribution: Coccura circumscripta has been recorded from 10 countries in the Palaearctic Region, including Iran ( García Morales et al. 2016), where it is known from Kerman province (Moghaddam 2015).

Host-plants:The species has been recorded on host-plants in two genera belonging to the families Amaranthaceae and Polygonaceae respectively ( García Morales et al. 2016); in Iran, it has been found on Noaea mucronata (Amaranthaceae) (Moghaddam 2015).

Economic importance: None.

Natural enemies: Not recorded in Iran.

Comments: Iranian specimens of C. circumscripta differ from those described from Russia by Danzig (2012) and Ter-Grigorian (1973) as follows (character states of the specimens described by the latter authors in brackets): (i) body about 3.65 mm long (2.2 mm long); (ii) antennae each 8 segmented (9 segmented); (iii) dorsal setae and cerarian setae lanceolate (conical); (iv) quinquelocular pores present medially on venter of thorax and abdominal segments I‒IV (only present on thoracic segments) (Moghaddam 2015).

Genus DYSMICOCCUS Ferris

Dysmicoccus Ferris, 1950 b: 53 View in CoL . Type species: Dactylopius brevipes Cockerell by original designation. Parkermicus Khalid & Shafee, 1988a: 31 View in CoL .

Principal characters: Body elongate oval to broadly oval, membranous. Antennae each with 8 segments. Legs well developed, claw without a denticle. Cerarii numbering 6–17 pairs, preocular pair (C 2) always absent; each cerarius usually with no more than 5 or 6 enlarged conical and a few auxiliary setae, but auxiliary setae sometimes absent anterior to the penultimate pair of cerarii (C 17). Circulus present or absent. Ostioles present. Dorsal setae slender and flagellate, although there may be conical setae present in addition. Ventral surface of each anal lobe with or without a sclerotized area, but never with an anal lobe bar. Multilocular disc pores usually present on venter but sometimes absent. Oral rim tubular ducts absent. Oral collar tubular ducts present on venter, rarely on dorsum. Anal ring complete, with 2 rows of pores and 6 setae.

Comments: Worldwide, 138 species are included in Dysmicoccus ( García Morales et al. 2016) ; six species are known from Iran ( Moghaddam 2018).
