Taxonomy: The senior author has examined a male and a female paratype in NMW, and specimens in NMLU. The species and B. crassiventris are easily recognised by the vase-shaped elytra of the male, and the shape of the eye which is oval with the long axis parallel to the body.

New Records: MALAYSIA, Sabah, Sipitang, Mendolong , various dates from 3-8.xii.1987, 2-10.iii.1989 (5 males, 6 females).

Distribution: East Malaysia, Indonesia (Kalimantan), Philippines. Imported to Japan in timber from both Kalimantan and the Philippines.

Biology: Recorded only from Shorea sp. (= ‘meranti’) ( Dipterocarpaceae ) ( Schedl 1969, Ohno et al. 1987a).
