Genus Cyphomyrmex Mayr View in CoL
There are two species of Cyphomyrmex recorded from California, both groundnesting and infrequently encountered. These fungusgrowing ants collect caterpillar frass and other organic matter, on which they cultivate fungal mycelia or (in some species) yeasts.
