Hishimonus arcuatus Knight 1970a: 132 View in CoL , figs 33–35.

Head and pronotum yellow, scutellum with pale brown central area, lateral margins lemon yellow with two faint fuscous spots near base and another before apex. Forewings ivory white with dark brown mottling except lateral areas beyond well marked median spot; latter with anterior smaller and lateral large rather elongate spot, dark brown, anterior margin lacking brown mottling except a few. Legs in male pale ochraceous; in female, femora dark brown; bases of setae on tibiae in both sexes dark brown.

Male genitalia: Pygofer in lateral view longer than its height, posterior margin conically rounded, macrosetae confined to posterior half. Valve approximately 2.5 times as wide at base as long medially. Subgenital plates broadly rounded at base, terminal fingerlike process about 3.5 times shorter than total length, long hairlike setae along lateral margin. Style about 2.5 times as long as wide at base, abruptly narrowed in middle; subapical lobe well developed with a few hairlike setae, apophysis directed posteriorly. Connective with stem narrow and slightly longer than arms Aedeagus with shafts elongate, tapering abruptly from posterior surface at midlength to slender anteriorly curved in apical half, gonopore on posterior and inner surface at midlength, dorsal margin of shafts serrated in middle.

Female genitalia. Seventh sternite 2.5 times as wide at base as long medially, posterior margin concave, with one triangular projection on each side of median line.

Measurements: Male 3.1–3.25 mm long, 1.16–1.18 mm wide across eyes.

Material examined. INDIA: Gujarat: 1 ♂, Junagadh, 30.i.1981, C. A. Viraktamath; Karnataka: Dharwad, 1 ♂, ii.1970, H.M. Harris, 1 ♂ Bandipur, 18.i.1985, S. Viraktamath; 1 ♂, 13.ix.2011, on sesame, Thangjam; 1 ♂, 2 ♀, 28.v.2008, at light, S.Murthy & Nagaraju; Bangalore: 916m, 1 ♂, 1 ♀, 20.xi.1996, C.A. Viraktamath; 3 ♂, 2 ♀, 27.i.2007, on bitter gourd, K.S. Girish; 1 ♂, 12.ix.2006, Shobharani; 1 ♂, 14.ii.2008, Shankara Murthy; 1 ♂, 6.i.2006, on bitter gourd, D.K. Nagaraju; 1 ♂, 18.ii.2009, on bitter gourd, Sanjaya Ghule ( UASB).

Remarks: H. arcuatus was described from a single male from Sri Lanka (not examined), it is recorded here for the first time from India. It closely resembles H. concavus Knight and H. nielsoni Knight. The absence of a triangular lamellate expansion on the aedeagal shafts separates it from the former species and the tapering of the aedeagal shafts at the level of the gonopore from the latter. The color of this species also varies. The specimen from Bandipur is darker with pale brownish yellow with brown mottling on the crown of the head, the pronotum and the face; the scutum and scutellum are orange brown with brown spots on the anterior margin and the lateral and apical margins ivory with brown spots along the lateral margin.
