Cyanotiphia Cameron, 1907 , The Entomologist 40:287 (description female).

Type species: Cyanotiphia ruficauda Cameron, 1907 (by monotype)

Type locality: Quop , Sarawak, Borneo . Type depository: British Museum.

Diagnosis. Males and females of the genus Cyanotiphia can be recognized by the following combination of characters (after Cameron, 1907; Allen, 1969):

1) body colour dark metallic blue ( Figs. 2–3 View FIGURE 2 View FIGURE 3 );

2) presence of two midtibial spurs ( Figs. 3E View FIGURE 3 );

3) mid and hind femora,in females, cylindrical, not broadened as in other genera of the subfamily Tiphiinae ( Figs.3F View FIGURE 3 );

4) radius of forewing with an intercubital spur as in Paratiphia Sichel ( Figs. 2A View FIGURE 2 , 3G View FIGURE 3 );

5) tegulae large, about half the length of pro and mesonotum ( Figs.2A View FIGURE 2 , 3A View FIGURE 3 ).
