Pachyprotasis altantennata , new species

( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 2 )

Material examined. Holotype: female, Longmenhe, Mt. Jianshan, Hubei Province (110°08΄E, 32°65΄N, alt. 1300m), 11. 0 5. 1994.

Distribution. China (Hubei).

Etymology. The specific epithet, an adjective, refers to the alt ernating color of the antenna which is black basally and white distally.

Diagnosis. Body black, dorsal parts of thorax with distinct spots, mesepisternum black without white spots; tergites 1–6 black without white spots; antennae black, white are: scape and pedicel ventrally, extreme apex of flagellomere 3, flagellomere 4 except basal half dorsally, whole of flagellomeres 5–7; legs yellowwhite, red-brown are: metafemur except extreme base and apex, basal 2/3 of metatibia; black are: apex of metafemur, apical 1/3 of metatibia, basal 5/7 of hind tarsomere 1; pro- and middle legs with black posterior stripes from base of femur to claws. Punctures on frontal area shallow, distance between punctures larger than diameter of puncture, inner orbits with shallow and scattered punctures, interspaces with microsculpture and oily luster; punctures on mesepisternum larger than on frontal area, distance between punctures equal to or greater than diameter of punctures, interspaces with microsculpture and distinct oily luster.

Description. Female: Body length 9 mm. Black, yellow-white are: labrum, clypeus except central fuscous spot and lateral margins, face below antennal socket, lower parts of inner and hind orbits, spot on temple, ventral sides of scape and pedicel, extreme apex of flagellomere 3, flagellomere 4 except basal half on outer side, flagellomeres 5–7, an arrow-headed spot on the hind apex of mesonotal middle lobe, small central spot on mesonotal lateral lobe, mesoscutellum except lateral parts, central part of appendage, metascutellum, posterodorsal corner of metepisternum, apex of metepimeron, medial triangular spots on posterior parts of tergites 7–8, central part of tergite 9, anterolateral sides of tergites 1–6, deflexed lateral sides of tergites 7–8, hind margins of all sternites, underside of valvifer 2; legs yellow-white, red-brown are: metafemur except base and apex, basal 2/3 of metatibia; black are: small spot on inner side of metacoxa, apex of metafemur, apical 1/3 of metatibia, basal 5/7 of hind tarsomere 1 except extremely fuscous base; pro- and middle legs with black posterior stripes from base of femur to claws. Wings hyaline; costa, subcosta, R1 and base of stigma brown, other part of stigma and remaining veins black-brown ( Figs 2 View FIGURES 2 a, 2b).

Labrum small with truncated anterior margin; clypeus truncately incised to 1/3 of its medial length, lateral lobes rather blunt; malar space as wide as diameter of median ocellus; inner margins of eyes slightly convergent downwards; supraantennal tubercles insignificant, frontal area slightly elevated below level of eyes in lateral view, frontal ridges round, indistinct; median fovea absent, antennal furrow trench-like; interocellar furrow shallow, postocellar furrow absent; postocellar area elevated and with shallow medial furrow, relative width: length = 1.6, lateral postocellar furrows rather deep and divergent backwards; head slightly narrowed behind eyes. Antenna longer than combined length of thorax and abdomen, flagellomere 1 longer than flagellomere 2 = 1.1; mesoscutellum bluntly elevated, anterior part of lateral carina acute, apex rounded, appendage with acute middle carina. Hind tarsomere 1 slightly longer than combined length of following 4 tarsomeres, claw with inner tooth distinctly longer than outer tooth. Front wing with middle petiole of anal cell distinctly shorter than half of basal anal cell, a little longer than vein R+M = 1.2; petiole of anal cell on hind wing present, slightly shorter than half of vein cu-a.

Punctures on labrum scattered and indistinct, on clypeus large, shallow and scattered; punctures on frontal area shallow, distance between punctures larger than diameter of puncture, inner orbits with shallow and scattered punctures, interspaces with microsculpture and oily luster; mesonotum minutely and densely punctured, distinctly shining; punctures on mesepisternum larger than on frontal area, distance between punctures equal to or greater than diameter of punctures, interspaces with microsculpture and distinct oily luster, meseanepimeron with distinct sculpture, slightly shining; mesekatepimeron polished with indistinct punctures and microsculpture, strongly shining; metapleuron with microsculpture and oily luster, punctures extremely minute, indistinct; central part of mesoscutellum polished without punctures, lateral parts with minute and shallow punctures, slightly shining, appendage with distinct microsculpture and oily luster; punctures on central part of tergites indistinct, on lateral sides scattered and minute, interspaces with microsculpture and oily luster; punctures on outer side of hind coxa of intermediate size.

Relative length of ovipositor sheath in lateral view shorter than hind tarsomere 1 = 0.9, valvula 3 tapering toward apex and longer than valvifer 2 = 1.25. Lancet with 22 annuli, middle serrula with 2–3 anterior and 9– 11 posterior sub-basal teeth, the 9th to 10th serrulae as in Fig. 2 View FIGURES 2 c.
