below is the original definition of the author (Columbo 1885 P: 24);

“Nel giorno 7 tra Chanak e Xefez si facevano le dragate XI in profondità variabile dai 6 ai 28 metri, con fondo di sabbia ed alga ritirando asterie, crostacei, un pesce, spugie, briozoi e qualche conchiglia: XII in 13 metri di pronfon- dita con fondo di alghe madrepore e scogli ottenendo: spugne, hydroidi, briozoi, vermi, qualche ascidia, molluschi, XIII, in 80 metri di profondita in fondo fangoso, in quache punto madreporico si ebbero pochi vermi, molte spunge, asterie, ascidie, briozoi ed actinie; XIV, in 50 metri di fondo eguale al precedente, ma meno ricco d’animali perchè s’ebbero pochi vermi, qualche hydroide e qualche ascidia; XV, in profondità variabile dai 30 ai 10 metri, in fondo di alga, sabbia e grosse pietre, ricco di echini, di pesci, di crostacai, ma povero di spugne. Gli animali raccolti da queste dragate sono:

PESCI: Arnoglossus grohmannii—Crenilabrus rostratus—due specie di Gobius—Scorpaena scropha—Solea mono- chir—giovine Solea vulgaris .”

- In the 7th day between Chanak 2 and Xefez 3 the dredges were made XI in depths varying from 6 to 28 meters, with a sandy bottom and seaweed withdrawing asterias, crustaceans, a fish, sponges, bryozoans and some shell: XII in 13 meters of depth with bottom of sea grass and reef algae obtaining: sponges, hydroids, bryozoans, worms, a few ascidians, molluscs, XIII, in a depth of 80 meters at the bottom of the mud, in which there are few worms, many sponges, asterias, ascidians, bryozoans; XIV, in 50 meters of bottom equal to the previous one, but less rich of animals be- cause few worms, some hydroids and some ascidians; XV, in a depth varying from 30 to 10 meters, at the bottom of alga, sand and large stones, rich in echini, fish, crustaceans, but poor in sponges. The animals collected from these dredges are:

FISHES: Arnoglossus grohmannii—Crenilabrus rostratus—two species of Gobius—Scorpaena scropha—Solea monochir—young Solea vulgaris .
