Colossendeis tasmanica Staples, 2007 View in CoL

Staples, 2007, 88–90, fig. 3, table 1.

Material. Solomon Islands: 2 specimens (MNHN-IU-2007-4776), station CP2217, 07°49.3’S 157°41.2’E, XI 2004, depth 1045–1118 m, NW Isabel. 1 specimen (MNHN-IU-2007-4777), station CP2253, 07°26.5’S 156°15.0’E, 0 2 XI 2004, depth 1200–1218 m, Ile Salomon. All Bouchet, Warén & Samedi-IRD coll.

Remarks. Colossendeis tasmanica was distinguished only recently by Staples (2007): it is similar in morphology to C. colossea , but can be distinguished by the articulation of the distal oviger claw (see under C. colossea above). The type and only previous material was from eastern Australia, so the present specimens extend the known range significantly further north. It is likely that re-examination of material identified previously as C. colossea may show the present species to be substantially more widespread in its distribution.
