Description. Male. Length (holotype): Body 2.6 mm, wing 2.7 mm. Head: Frons, face and clypeus metallic green with weak grey pruinosity; palpus and proboscis dark brown; antenna entirely yellow; lower postoculars pale. Thorax: Dorsum metallic shiny green, with dusting of grey pruinosity on posterior part; all thoracic setae yellow; 3 strong dc, and 1 hair-like anterior seta; ac small; scutellum metallic green with grey pruinosity; 2 strong scutellars and 2 lateral setae about two-thirds length of medians; pleura dark metallic green, proepisternum with strong yellow seta below. Legs: Coxae dark brown, remainder of legs yellow; all setae pale yellow, except as noted. Fore leg: coxa with small black setae; femur with av row of small setae; tibia without setae; tarsomeres 2 and 3 broadened and flattened (MSSC) ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A); relative podomere ratios: 49/50/28/ 10/17/8 /5. Mid leg: coxa with 1 strong anterolateral seta; femur without setae; tibia with ad/pd setal pair at 1/4, and 1 apicoventral seta; relative podomere ratios: 56/60/42/ 19/16/8 /5. Hind leg: coxa with strong lateral seta; femur with anterior row of setae; tibia with 3-5 dorsal subapical setae and 1 ad apical seta, with black pv apical tooth-like projection (MSSC); relative podomere ratios: 64/87/19/42/ 23/14/9. Wing: Veins yellowish; R4+5 and M converging and becoming subparallel before wing margin; CuAx ratio: 0.5; RMx ratio: 5.4; lower calypter pale yellow with fan of pale setae; halter yellow. Abdomen: Dark metallic green, tergites 6 and 7 with yellow dorsal spot; tergite 8 ochreous with yellow spot; setae whitish-yellow; epandrium dark brown; cercus, surstylus and hypandrium yellowish. Male genitalia ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ): epandrium rectangular; hypandrium with acute apex (lateral view); epandrial seta near setae of epandrial lobes, all 3 setae of similar size; surstylus broadened apically, with rectangular ventral margin, with 4 strong ventral setae and 1 strong apical seta; cercus with narrow projection bearing 4 strong apical setae. Female: Similar to male.

Etymology. The species is named after the type locality.

Remarks. Medtera peradeniya belongs to the aberrans species-group. It is similar to M. luzonensis Bickel, 1987 , from the Philippines. Both species can be separated by the characters given in the key below.
