Graomys griseoflavus (Waterhouse 1837)

[Mus] griseoflavus Waterhouse 1837 , Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1837: 28.

Type Locality: Argentina, Río Negro Prov., mouth of Río Negro.

Vernacular Names: Common Pericote.

Synonyms: Graomys cachinus (J. A. Allen 1901) ; Graomys chacoensis (J. A. Allen 1901) ; Graomys lockwoodi Thomas 1918 ; Graomys medius Thomas 1919 .

Distribution: SC Bolivia, W Paraguay, and nearby Brazil, south through W Argentina to S Chubut Prov.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: See remarks under G. centralis and G. domorum , taxa formerly included under G. griseoflavus as revised by Hershkovitz (1962). Pardiñas (1995) reallocated the late Pleistocene forms Bothriomys catenatus and Oxymicterus impexus , described by Ameghino (1889), as full synonyms of G. griseoflavus ; these reallocations and other fossil sites in Buenos Aires establish the broader distribution of the species in the late Pleistocene.
