Description. Length 4.5–12.0 mm. Mouthparts: Ligula smooth, translucent, truncate, generally bisetose (otherwise plurisetose with 2 long setae over apex and many short setae centrally); paraglossae membranous, wide, glabrous, truncate, subequal to length of ligula. Palpi thick, densely pubescent, maxillary palpi with penultimate article short, conical, terminal segment long, slightly swollen, oval; labial palpi with terminal segment subsecuriform, obliquely truncate. Mentum deeply emarginate, median tooth triangular, acute; lobes divergent, wide; epilobes with distinct suture, triangular, apex rounded. Labrum glabrous, flat, transverse, narrow, with 6 evenly spaced setae. Antennae: Thick, covered with dense setae. Mandibles thick, not crossing each other, scrobe unisetose. Elytra: Generally rectangular, sides subparallel, humerus square. Hind wings: Present. Legs: Femora densely pubescent; tarsi with basal article scarcely attenuate. Male protarsomeres 1–3 asymmetrical (symmetrical in females), adhesive pads beneath forming 2 parallel rows of spatulate setae.
