similis (Picromerus) Distant 1883: 421. [ Figs 188–189 View FIGURES 185–192 ]
Original data: “ Hab. Hakodatè.” [syntype (s)]
SYNTYPE ♁: blue-margined syntype disc; red-margined type disc; “ Japan (Lewis)”; “ similis (Dist.) [Distant’s handwriting]”; “Ha Ko”; “NHMUK 010592296”. Specimen well preserved ( Fig. 188 View FIGURES 185–192 ) .
NON-TYPE ♀: “Hakodatè / 88 31”; “NHMUK 010592298”. Specimen well preserved ( Fig. 189 View FIGURES 185–192 ).
Current status: Picromerus lewisi Scott, 1874 (synonymised by Josifov & Kerzhner 1978: 180).
Notes: Distant (1883: 421) had noted “In colour, markings, and general appearance almost undistinguishable from P. lewisi Scott , [...]” and indeed Picromerus similis Distant was synonymised to P. lewisi Scott by Josifov & Kerzhner (1978). The female specimen was received at NHMUK in 1888 and was, in all likelihood, collected the previous year, four years after the original description; it cannot be a syntype but is a topotype, contemporary to the male syntype.
