Litonotus obtusus Maupas, 1888 View in CoL
Litonotus obtusus View in CoL — Tirjaková 1997a: 16; Tirjaková & Stloukal 2004: 17.
Main morphological characters (according to Kahl 1931). Body lanceolate with broadly rounded posterior body end; left side vaulted and without median rib. Contractile vacuole dorsal and distinctly subterminal. Nuclear apparatus, extrusomes and ciliary pattern not described; possibly as in Li. carinatus .
Distribution. Litonotus obtusus was found in the debris of the spring area below the Veľký Javorník, Malé Karpaty Mts ( Tirjaková 1997a, Tirjaková & Stloukal 2004).
Notes. Song & Wilbert (1989) suggested synonymization of L. obtusus and L. carinatus . However, due to the taxonomical difficulties, we cannot exclude that both species are reliable. For further details, see Issue 4 in ‘Notes and discussion on the checklist’.
