Habitat. Intertidal, on sandy muddy bottom with gravel and coral rubbles.
Distribution. Wide distribution in the Indo-West Pacific, from the East coast of Africa to Hawaii and Tuamotu archipelago. Indonesia: Sulawesi, Maluku, and Lombok.
Remarks. This is a quite common species in gravel and sandy beach in Indonesian waters. Usually found under rocks or boulders during low tide.In other places of the Indo-West Pacific, C. laevimanus is also found in hard substrate of upper littoral zone, rocky platform, shallow pools and towards upper part of shore with sparse algal growth ( McLaughlin et al, 2007; Malay et al., 2018). The species is easily recognized by the black and white color of the left cheliped and the blue band on the ocular peduncles.This coloration persists in preservative.
