Form slender, elongate. Head with elongated rostrum; frons oblique and plane. Antennal tubercles feebly prominent, rounded. Eyes finely faceted, deeply emarginated, with upper lobes well separated on vertex, about 3.5 times as wide as upper lobe. Apical segment of maxillary palps cylindrical, slightly attenuate at base and apex, as long as preceding two segments combined. Antennae 11-segmented, filiform. Prothorax broader than long, or elongated. Prosternum with intercoxal process very narrow, at most one-quarter as broad as the procoxa, subparallel between procoxae. Anterior coxal cavities angular at sides, open behind. Mesosternum with intercoxal process subplane, half as broad as mesocoxa. Intermediate coxal cavities open to epimera. Scutellum small, subtriangular. Elytra plane, gradually narrowing to apex, about three to five times as long as prothorax; apices rounded. Humeri rounded, not prominent. Legs moderately long, hind legs about 1.5–2.0 times as long as forelegs. Procoxae and mesocoxae conical. Femora sublinear, unarmed; metafemora not exceeding last abdominal segment. Tibiae cylindrical, not carinate. Tarsi elongate, particularly the intermediate and posterior. Abdominal segments 1–4 cylindrical, gradually expanded to apex; fifth segment strongly depressed; one or two abdominal segments dorsally exposed.

Type species: Cylindrommata longissima Tippmann, 1960 (monotypy).

Comments

The tribe Rhinotragini can be divided into two groups of genera, one with the anterior coxal cavities open behind, and the other with the anterior coxal cavities closed. Cylindrommata belongs to the first group, with 10 other genera: Acorethra Bates, 1873 , Apostropha Bates, 1873 , Catorthontus Waterhouse, 1880 , Corallancyla Tippmann, 1960 , Epimelitta Bates, 1870 , Neophygopoda Melzer, 1933 , Oxylymma Pascoe, 1859 , Stenochariergus Giesbert and Hovore, 1989 , Stenopseustes Bates, 1873 and Xenocrasis Bates, 1873 . Cylindrommata differs from all these genera by the combination of the following characters: body slender, elongate; femora sublinear; metafemora not exceeding last abdominal segment; abdominal segments 1–4 cylindrical, gradually expanded to apex; fifth segment strongly depressed.
