Asianthrips vietnamensis View in CoL sp. n.

( Figs 28 View FIGURES 23–28 , 151–157 View FIGURES 151–157 )

Female macroptera. Body pale brown to brown ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 23–28 ). Head, prothorax, mesothorax and pleural regions of metathorax brown, but prothorax a little paler than head. Abdominal segments pale brown; intermediate segments darkened anterolaterally. Tube brown at basal 1/2, with base somewhat paler, pale brown at distal 1/2. Antennal segments I and II pale brown to brown; segment III yellowish, shaded with brown distally; segment IV brown, yellowish at basal 1/4; remaining segments brown. All femora pale brown, yellowish at apex; tibiae and tarsi yellow. Fore wings shaded with brown, somewhat paler at basal 1/5 and median constriction. Prominent body setae almost colourless. Head ( Fig. 151 View FIGURES 151–157 ) a little wider than long, 0.95 times as long as wide; dorsal surface sculptured with transverse reticulation or striae, but the reticles weak behind eyes. Cheeks weakly incut behind eyes, weakly rounded, narrowed to base. Eyes well developed, 0.41–0.42 times as long as head. Postocular setae shorter than head.Antennal segments VII and VIII narrowly fused, segment VIII lanceolate, distinctly constricted at base ( Fig. 152 View FIGURES 151–157 ); segment III with two stout sense cones. Maxillary stylets short and V-shaped, retracted into 1/4 of head capsule; maxillary bridge arched, but weak. Mouth cone rather pointed. Pronotum ( Fig. 151 View FIGURES 151–157 ) about 0.7 times as long as head, 1.9 times as wide as long; pa almost as long as or a little longer than 1/2 of median pronotal length. Prospinasternum weak, largely eroded. Mesopresternum and mesoeusternum ( Fig. 154 View FIGURES 151–157 ) widely fused, with very short sutures between them at both sides. Fore tarsal tooth absent. Fore wings with 5–6 duplicated cilia. Pelta trapezoid ( Fig. 153 View FIGURES 151–157 ). Tergites not small, tergites II to VI wider than pronotum. S1 and S2 setae on tergite IX expanded at apex, S2 longer than S1. Tube ( Fig. 157 View FIGURES 151–157 ) 0.61 times as long as head. Anal setae shorter than tube.

Measurements. Female holotype (mac.) in microns. Distended body length 1625. Head length 150, width across cheeks 158. Compound eye dorsal length 62–63. Pronotum length 105, width 200. Fore wing length about 640. Tube length 92, width across base 55. Antenna length 355, segments III–VIII length (width) as follows: 50 (30), 53 (30), 46 (25), 45 (21), 42 (19), 33 (10). Postocular setae?. Pronotal aa?35, am about 40, ml?45, pa 58–60, epim?50. S1 setae on tergite IX 75–80, S2 setae on tergite IX 91–92. Anal setae 82–83.

Type series. Holotype female (mac.): Vietnam, Ninh Thuan Prov., Lam Son District, Root 27 (Pass 1), 23.viii.2007 (SO).

Remarks. In having the combination of lanceolate antennal segment VIII and two sense cones on antennal segment III, A. vietnamensis can be distinguished easily from its congeners.
