Dinotoperla View in CoL sp. NSW2

( Fig. 29 View FIGURE 29 A–D)

Larva. Remarks. Morphologically and genetically distinct specimens but not associated with adults during this study. Location data suggest the specimens could be either a described species like D. arcuata , D. duplex , D.

pseudodolichoprocta or an undescribed species. Genetically this species was sister to D. sp. NQLD1, D. sp. NQLD4 and D. uniformis . Specimens deposited in ANIC.

Material examined: New South Wales: Gloucester Tops National Park: 2 x larvae: Gloucester River at Gloucester Tops campground. -32.0582 151.6841. Collected: 20-Nov-12, Collectors: J Mynott & D Black, Accession numbers: JMH1462, JMH1658.

Length: 4.5 mm.

Colour: Light brown with pale patches on legs and nota.

Body: Robust; head and pronotum subequal; abdomen longer than thorax.

Head: Mottled in posterior area behind epicranial suture. Antennae as long as head and thorax; elongated segments near tip; long fine setae the same length as segment may be present in the first 20 segments, other setae present around hind margin of segment.

Thorax: Pronotum wider than long, rectangular in appearance; width narrower than head, not exceeding eyes. Robust setae present on pronotal surface, not evident on outer margin. Meso- and meta-nota with pale bosses at the base of wingpads, patch of short robust setae present on top of bosses; pale patches also in anterior area of nota; robust setae present in medial area, straight but tapering to a point, hind margins with sickle shaped robust setae.

Legs: Femora and tibiae with fringe of long fine setae; surface of tibia with robust setae present; inner margin with long robust setae present. Outer surface of femora with two dark longitudinal stripes, one each in upper and lower area; broad dark bands in distal and proximal areas, leaves a pale patch in medial area and area near distal margin of femora; outer surface with robust setae similar to nota. Tibiae outer surface with dark longitudinal stripe in lower area; thin dark band in proximal area.

Abdomen: Tergites with a dark spot off-centre, two per tergite; surface with robust setae similar to nota, hind margin with broader sickle-shaped setae. Tergite X with similar setae as other tergites, hind margin broad and rounded; dark spots in lateral area and posterior area along hind margin darkened. Gills purplish. Cerci shorter than abdomen; segment length greater than width by approx. segments 7–8, elongating to very thin segments; very long robust setae present on hind margin of segment, present until approx. segments 12–13. Paraprocts long, length approx. 1.5 times basal width, outer margin with slight indentation near cercal base.
