Odontoperla cf. schneiderae View in CoL complex, n. comb.

( Fig. 32 View FIGURE 32 A–D)

Larva. Remarks. Larval morphology of the three genetic sub-clades ( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 & 2 View FIGURE 2 , Clades NQLD, Bunya and LNP- BNP) is similar. Adult males from Bunya Mountains and northern Queensland were identified as O. schneiderae . However, the genetic and geographic distances would suggest that this is a complex of species which will require further morphological and genetic assessment. Additionally, the specimens identified by Yule (1997) as D. duplex were reexamined by JHM and match the larval description of this complex. The genitalia of D. duplex do not fit with the characters of this genus and this association, based on examination of a mature larva ( Yule (1997) will need to be reassessed.

Length: 5–6 mm.

Colour: Pale brownish, very pale underside; patches of white on thorax.

Body: Robust, all dorsal surfaces covered with a scattering of dark long setae.

Head: Antennae as long as body, some long fine setae on dorsal surface of posterior segments, segments elongate only near tip.

Thorax: Pronotum slightly trapezoid, anterior not as wide as posterior. Width does not exceed eye position. Meso- and meta-nota with raised bosses at base of wing pad, paler than area around.

Legs: Femora and tibiae with fringe of long fine setae on outer margin, more prominent on tibiae. Distal area of outer margin on femora with socketed setae that are broad and long, may also be present on outer and inner surfaces in distal area. Outer surface of femora (distal area) and tibiae (whole surface) with long setae similar to those on the body. Inner margin of femora and tibiae with long robust setae.

Abdomen: Surface of tergites covered in similar setae to rest of body. Hind margin of tergites with some paddle shaped socketed setae, predominantly one off-centre either side of the medial line; hind margin of tergite X with long paddle-like setae along entire margin. Paraprocts short, basal width longer than paraproct length. Gill tuft dense, gills purplish. Cerci approximately length of abdomen (most cerci had broken off near base on specimens); segment length greater than width by segment 6–7, becoming very elongated; fringe of very long setae of varying length around cercal margin.
