Type material examined. Poecilocoris capitatus : LECTOTYPE (ɗ) (present designation): “intermedia sp.N.” [W.I. Yang’s handwriting on transparent paper, folded]; “MUSEUM PARIS \ KOUY-TCHÉOU \ RÉG. DE PIN-FA \ PÈRE CAVALERIE 1908” [printed]. Pinned, left antennal segments III–IV, right antennal segments IIa–IV, right fore and left hind legs distad of femur, and all the remaining legs distad of coxa missing; male genitalia dissected, pygophore and right paramere glued on card, phallus deposited in plastic microvial with glycerol, pinned with the specimen; deposited in MNHN ( Figs. 38–40 View FIGURES 36 – 40 ). — PARALECTOTYPE: “MUSEUM PARIS \ CHINE \ TANNANT 873-93” [printed]; “873 \ 93” [circle, handwritten]; “ Poecilocoris \ rufigenis \ varieté Dall. \ J. Martin det. 1899” [handwritten + printed] (1 Ψ, MNHN).

Additional specimens examined. “MUSEUM PARIS \ BHOUTAN \ ANGLAIS \ R. OBERTHÜR 1900” [printed]; “ TYPE ” [printed in red]; “ Poecilocoris \ capitatus \ Yang \ WE-I YANG DÉT. 1933” [W.I. Yang’s handwriting + printed].

Discussion. Poecilocoris capitatus was described from Guizhou province of China and Bhutan, later it has been reported and listed by a few authors from Yunnan ( Yang 1962; Zhang et al. 1983; Jiang 1985; Zhang & Lin 1990) and Guangdong ( Hua 1992). It was included in the revision of the Chinese Poecilocoris based on the original description only, without seeing any specimens ( Hsiao & Zheng 1977).

The three specimens which are mentioned in the original description have been found in MNHN. Unfortunately, the specimen which is labelled as type and is provided with Yang’s handwritten label, was not included among the type specimens designated in the original description, therefore it must be treated as a non-type. Of the two syntypes mentioned in the original description, the male ( Figs. 38–40 View FIGURES 36 – 40 ) is designated here as lectotype.

Dissection of the male genitalia of the lectotype showed that P. capitatus fully agrees with the widely distributed Oriental species P. r u f i g e n i s; therefore it is placed in synonymy with the latter.
