Isoscelipteron pectinatum ( Navás, 1905) View in CoL

( Figs. 9–10 View FIGURE 9 View FIGURE 10 , 29–32 View FIGURES 29–32 )

Sisyrura pectinata Navás, 1905: 51 View in CoL . Type locality: China (Shanghai).

Diagnosis. This species is characterized by the male tergum 9 + ectoprocts posteroventrally with short obtuse processus, the fused gonocoxites 11 (= gonarcus) with median incision, and the torulus subquadrate.

Description. Male. Body length 9.0–10.0 mm; forewing length 12.5–13.5 mm, hindwing length 10.5–11.5 mm.

Head generally pale yellow with yellowish setae, but setae on frons and clypeus pale brown. Compound eyes blackish brown. Antennae yellow with yellowish setae; setae on scape longer than those on pedicel and flagellum; scape thick, length-width ratio approximately 3:1.

Prothorax generally pale yellow; pronotum laterally brown with several reddish brown spots. Meso- and metathorax pale yellowish brown with yellowish setae, meso- and metanotum laterally brown. Legs pale yellow, tibia distally with some dark brown spots; setae generally pale yellow, but pale brown on tibia. Forewing distinctly convex in pterostigmal area, and falcate on apex, slightly smoky brown and darker along distal margin, with grayish brown spots on branching points of many longitudinal veins and along outer gradate series; pterostigma narrowly elongate, slightly reddish brown, with some brownish spots; setae grayish on inner margin, yellowish on outer margin. Longitudinal veins pale yellow, interrupted by many brownish spots; crossveins dark brown. Hindwing slightly paler than forewing, immaculate.

Abdomen yellowish brown, pregenital segments dorsally brown.

Male genitalia. Tergum 9 + ectoprocts as long as tergum 8, in lateral view nearly semicircular, posteroventrally produced into a short obtuse processus. Sternum 9 slightly shorter than sternum 8, slightly concaved posteriad. Gonocoxites 9 paired, with hook-like apex. Complex of fused gonocoxites, gonapophyses and gonostyli 10 (= paramere-mediuncus complex) with large spiral part composed of numerous loops, anteriorly reaching into segment 7. Fused gonocoxites 11 (= gonarcus) arched, with median incision. Torulus subquadrate. Hypandrium internum large subtriangular.

Female. Body length 6.6–9.0 mm; forewing length 11.0–13.0 mm, hindwing length 10.0– 11.5 mm.

Female genitalia. Sternum 7 mostly reduced, gonocoxites 7 present as a pair of domed sclerites; gonapophyses 7 as hairless plates. Gonocoxites 8 ventrally with a pair of membranous digitiform processus directed anteroventrad, connected by a tiny transverse sclerite. Gonapophyses 8 forming a tiny sclerite (pudiculum). Tergum 9 + ectoprocts nearly as long as tergum 8, ventrally tapering and bearing long setae. Gonocoxites 9 paired, club-shaped; hypocaudae almost three times as long as basal part of gonocoxites 9 in ventral view. Bursacopulatrix-spermatheca complex comprising a small but strongly sclerotized globular element and a basal coil with varying lumen in widths.

Distribution. China (Guizhou, Shandong, Shanghai, Sichuan, Zhejiang).

Remarks. The holotype of this species is a female from Shanghai and is deposited in the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris. It has been studied, redescribed, and illustrated by U. Aspöck & H. Aspöck (1991). Moreover, in that paper also a male from Shanghai has been described and illustrated in detail. Based on these descriptions and illustrations, the present material in this paper can be clearly assigned to I. pectinatum .

Aside from Shanghai, Shandong and Zhejiang (both near the type locality), I. pectinatum is now known also from Guizhou and Sichuan in southwestern China, thus it can be considered a widespread species.
