Promachus melampygus Wulp, 1872: 223 View in CoL . Type locality: Indonesia (Java) [Holotype ♀, RMNH].

Indian distribution: State Unknown: Thar Desert (region) ( Mitra et al. 2005: 150).

World distribution: Borneo, Indonesia, Philippines [not India] ( Wulp 1872: 223; Oldroyd 1975: 153).

Note: Mitra et al. (2005: 150) included this species in a list of true flies from Thar Desert without any specimen base. This species, however, is restricted to southeastern Asia. We exclude this species from the Indian fauna as a lapsus or misidentification.
