Indian distribution: Kerala: Kozhikode Dist.: Kozhikode [ Calicut] (city); Meghalaya: East Khasi Hills Dist.: Khasi Hills (hills) ( Joseph & Parui 1983a: 361; 1990a: 61; 1997b: 21; 1999a: 108; Pillai et al. 2023: 413).

World distribution: Cambodia, China, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam ( Schiner 1868: 179; Ricardo 1921a:192; Oldroyd 1975: 149; Joseph & Parui 1983a: 361; Tomasovic & Constant 2017: 8).

Note: Ricardo (1921a: 191) listed Trupanea separata Walker, 1855 as a synonym of Philodicus chinensis Schiner, 1868 . This act violates the Principle of Priority (ICZN Article 23), but a case could possibly be made for a reversal of precedence based on prevailing usage (ICZN 23.9.1). However, it should first be confirmed that Trupanea separata and Philodicus chinensis are indeed subjective synonyms, which would best be done in the context of a taxonomic revision of Philodicus .
