Mesochorus (Mesochorus) trani nov. sp.

( Figs 7 View FIGURE 7 E, 13G View FIGURE 13 , 20C, 24I)

Holotype. (♀) NW Vietnam: Tonkin, Hoang Lien N. R., 10 km SW Sa Pa , c. 1550 m, 22–29.x.1999, Malaise trap, C. v. Achterberg, RMNH´99 (Leiden).

Paratype. (♀) similar label (Leiden).

Etymology. The species refers to the Tran dynasty which ruled in Vietnam in the 13 th and 14 th century.

Description. ♀: Body length 6.0– 6.2 mm. Length of fore wing 5.1 mm.

Head. Flagellum with 35-36 flagellomeres; 1 st flagellomere 6.1 × longer than wide, 0.7 × as long as eye and 1.5–1.6 × longer than 2 nd flagellomere; 2 nd flagellomere 4.1 × longer than wide; preapical flagellomere 2.8–3.0 × longer than wide. Temple strongly and roundly narrowed behind eye, dorsally c 0.4 × as long as eye. OED 0.8–0.9 × and OOD 0.5 × ocellar diameter. Frons with microsculpture and fine punctures dorsally. Face ( Fig. 13G View FIGURE 13 ) densely punctate, with central longitudinal ridge in dorsal half, width 1.1 × combined length of face and clypeus and 0.9 × eye length; inner eye margins parallel. Subantennal transverse carina dipped medially. Malar space and ventral 0.4 of facial orbit ± striate. Malar space 0.5 × as long as width of mandibular base. Mandible with two equal teeth. Genal carina reaching hypostomal carina away from mandibular base, both carinae low.

Mesosoma . 1.7 × longer than high. Mesoscutum densely punctate on lateral lobe, rugose-punctate apicomedially. Scuto-scutellar groove finely punctate. Scutellum moderately convex, rather densely punctate, without lateral carina, ± pointed apically but without distinct apical tubercle. Mesopleuron with rather dense punctures fronto-dorsally and with sparse punctures ventrally. Dorsal end of epicnemial carina separated from frontal margin of mesopleuron. Metapleuron with fine dense punctures. Submetapleural carina lamelliform frontally. Propodeum ( Fig. 20C View FIGURE 20 ) completely carinate. Area basalis triangular, 2 × longer than wide. Area superomedia 1.9 × longer than wide and 1.5 × longer than area petiolaris; anterior transverse carina (costula) reaching 3.5/10 of its length. Area petiolaris 1.1 × longer than wide. Distal fore tarsomere 2.7 × longer than wide. Hind femur 4.7–4.9 × longer than wide; hind metatarsus 0.5 × as long as hind tibia and 2.5 × longer than 2 nd hind tarsomere; hind claw with c 5 long teeth. Areolet pointed frontally; vein 2m-cu slightly proximad its middle. Vein 1cu-a interstitial. Postnervulus intercepted basad its middle. Pterostigma 3.4 × longer than wide.

Metasoma. 1 st tergite slender, 3.1 × longer than wide. Postpetiolus with some fine punctures. 2 nd tergite 1.3 × longer than wide. Thyridium roundish. Ovipositor sheath ( Fig. 24I View FIGURE 24 ) densely pilose, 7.0 × longer than wide, 0.4 × as long as hind tibia and 0.8–0.9 × as long as hind metatarsus, moderately narrowed in apical 0.4.

Color. Body mainly reddish. Flagellum pale brownish. Palps, mandible except teeth, malar space, ventral gena, facial orbit and ventral half of frontal orbit cream-yellow. Stemmaticum blackish. In paratype frons medially and occiput dorsally brownish. Ventral margin and hind edge of pronotum and tegula yellowish. Mesoscutum with two lateral and one anteromedial brown stripe. 1 st and 2 nd tergites red. 3 rd tergite red, reddish-yellow in apical half. Following tergites reddish-yellow. Ovipositor sheath reddish. Fore and mid coxae and trochanters cream-yellow; fore and mid legs otherwise reddish-yellow. Hind leg reddish. Pterostigma dark brown.

♁ unknown.

Taxonomical remark. The new species belongs to the declinans group sensu Schwenke (1999). Color mainly red, but pterostigma brown and mesoscutum with 3 brown stripes. Hind claw strongly pectinate.
