Axinoscymnus beneficus Kamiya, 1963: 128 .— Kamiya 1965: 99, Sasaji 1971: 81, Yang et Wu 1972: 125, Ren et Pang 1992: 20, Yu 1995: 128, Yu et Lau 2001: 153, Pang et al. 2004: 90, Ren et al. 2009: 54.

Diagnosis. This species is similar to A. singaporicus Pang et Gordon in the elytra with brown basal margin but can be separated from the latter by the pointed apex of penis ( Fig. 7e View FIGURE 7 ). In A. singaporicus , the apex of penis is distinctly swollen and blunt according to the illustrations given by Pang & Gordon (1986).

Description. TL: 1.46–1.61 mm, TW: 1.00– 1.14 mm, TH: 0.74–0.91 mm, TL/TW: 1.41–1.46, EL/EW: 1.12– 1.14, PL/PW: 0.46–0.47, HW/PW: 0.65–0.69, PW/EW: 0.71–0.73.

Body oval, moderately convex, dorsum covered with pale yellow pubescence ( Figs 7a–c View FIGURE 7 ). Head, antennae and mouthparts yellow ( Fig. 7c View FIGURE 7 ), tip of mandibles brown. Mesoventrite black with yellowish brown base. Metaventrite black. Elytral epipleurae black or dark brown with yellowish brown base. Legs yellow.

Head with fine frontal punctures, as large as eye facets, 1.0–2.0 diameters apart. Eye densely faceted, interocular distance 0.25 times of head width ( Fig. 7c View FIGURE 7 ). Inner ocular margin arcuate. Pronotal punctures slightly larger than those on frons, 1.0–1.5 diameters apart. Surface of elytra with punctures larger than those on pronotum, separated by 1.0–2.0 diameters.

Abdominal postcoxal lines complete and moderately recurved, reaching 3/4 length of ventrite 1 ( Fig. 7d View FIGURE 7 ), area enclosed by the lines finely and sparsely punctate, irregularly distributed, relatively narrowly smooth along the lines; ventrite 1 with weekly coarse and sparse punctures at middle.

Male genitalia. Penis short and stout, strongly curved at base, apical 1/3 of penis slightly swollen and narrowing to apex ( Fig. 7e View FIGURE 7 ); tegmen with penis guide stout, parallel at basal 3/4 length, apical narrowing sharply in inner view ( Fig. 7g View FIGURE 7 ), shorter than 1/3 length of parameres; parameres large, elongate oval, apex with several setae ( Fig. 7f View FIGURE 7 ).

Female genitalia. Coxites elongate ( Fig. 1j View FIGURE 1 ), subtriangular, without styli. Spermatheca short and stout, bulbousshaped as shown in Fig. 1i View FIGURE 1 .
