Diagnostic description. Mesosoma mostly to extensively light (orange, yellow or light yellow-brown); metasoma dorsally mostly dark but with T 3 yellow, or mostly light (orange, yellow or light yellow-brown); gena without pale spot; tegula pale; first two pairs of legs entirely pale (yellow, orange or light yellow-brown), rarely with coxae darker; metacoxa pale; metafemur mostly pale (yellow, orange or light yellow-brown); metatibia mostly yellow; T 2 mostly sculptured. Notogaster macdonaldae is morphologically similar to N. charlesi but it is slightly darker, and it does not have a pale spot on the gena ( Figs 14B, 14E View FIGURE 14 ).

Etymology. Named after Frances MacDonald for her contribution to entomology in New Zealand.
