Type Locality: Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre (30 o 04’S, 51 o 07’W); as restricted by Emmons et al. (2002) GoogleMaps .
Vernacular Names: Drab Atlantic Tree-rat.
Distribution: S Parana to Rio Grande do Sul, usually below 800 m (S Brazil).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc) as Echimys dasythrix .
Discussion: Karyotype has 2n=72 ( Leite, 2003).
