Anotylus benisculptilis View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 4 View FIGURE 3 – 4 )

Type locality: CHINA, Sichuan, Wolong County, Wulidun.

Type material examined. Holotype: male, CHINA, Sichuan Province: Wolong County, Wulidun , 2650 m, Grass land, 6–9. V. 2004. coll. Xiaodong Yu (IZ-CAS).

Description. Body dark brown; elytra and legs brown. Forebody sparsely pubescent, punctate and striate. Body length 4.54 mm.

Male: Head ( Fig. 4-1B, 4-2A View FIGURE 3 – 4 ) slightly broader than pronotum. Disc with small punctures and dense striae, vertex extremely convex, mid-longitudinal sulcus deep, slightly fused with deep impression on each side before base. Supra-antennal ridge with margin incrassate. Temples dilated, approximately two times as long as eyes. Clypeus nearly trapezoidal, about 1/3 of total head length, coriaceous, slightly convex, with anterior margin produced. Epistomal suture with lateral portions straight and obliquely inward, running backward to level of anterior margin of eyes.

Occipital suture slightly curved forward in middle. Antenna filiform, segment IV globular, VI–X short and transverse, with ultimate one stilliform. Neck without smooth area.

Pronotum ( Fig. 4-1B, 4-2A View FIGURE 3 – 4 ) transverse, broadest at near anterior 1/3; disc slightly convex, with sparse longitudinal sculptures and punctures, denser laterally; median longitudinal sulcus deep and broad, with two broader and shallower paramedial sulci; bordered by much sharper longitudinal carina between mid-longitudinal sulcus and paramedial sulcus; with two shallow depressions close to lateral margins. Anterior margin broadly emarginate in middle. Lateral and posterior margins running less continuously, posterior angles obtuse but obvious. Lateral margin crenate on posterior half. Scutellum with crest-shaped impression, with median lobe sharply pointed. Elytra densely sculptured, punctured and pubescent; lateral margin curved and posterior margins truncate. Abdomen coriaceous, covered with punctures and pubescence. Sternite VII ( Fig. 4-1C, 4-2B View FIGURE 3 – 4 ) with posterior margin slightly emarginate and bearing long setae laterally. Sternite VIII ( Fig. 4-1D, 4-2C View FIGURE 3 – 4 ) with posterior margin deeply bi-emarginate and thus forming triangulate plate in middle, with long setae laterally; middle angle rounded obtusely and more angulate in form, with tip slightly beyond lateral angles posteriorly.

Aedeagus ( Fig. 4-1E–G, 4-2 E–G View FIGURE 3 – 4 ) with median lobe elongate, slightly inflated at base and shortly narrowing to apex; apical orifice large and ventral orifice crescentic; internal sac of median lobe with complicated sclerites.

Parameres ( Fig. 4-1H, 4-2D View FIGURE 3 – 4 ) flattened and enlarged, broader at base, closely situated to each other and twining around median lobe; with thick seta at middle of ventral edge of each paramere.

Distribution. China (Sichuan).

Etymology. The species epithet is from the Latin prefix " beni -" and adjective "sculptilis " (sculptured), to indicate the strong and obvious striae and punctures on head and pronotum.

Differential diagnosis. This new species is similar to A. vicinus ( Sharp, 1874) in appearance, but can be distinguished from the latter by having head and pronotum with sculpture deeper and coarser, male sternite VII is slightly emarginate, sternite VIII is bi-emarginate. Whereas A. vicinus ( Sharp, 1874) has male sternite VII almost straight and sternite VIII broadly emarginate. The new species is also similar to A. chinkiangensis ( Bernhauer, 1938) in the structure of the male genitalia, but can be distinguished from the latter by the structure in the internal sac of the median lobe.
