Synagris Latreille 1802: 360 , genus.

Type species: “ Vespa cornuta F.” [= V. cornuta Linnaeus, 1758 ], by monotypy.

Eusynagris Dalla Torre 1904: 30 , name for division I of Synagris Latreille in de Saussure (1852:79) and de Saussure (1863: 179), group of Synagris or genus. Type species: Vespa cornuta Linnaeus, 1758 , by monotypy.

Diagnosis. Distinguished from other subgenera of Synagris by: larger size, inner margin of mandible edentate and finely crenate, outer surface of mandible without ridges, labrum strongly narrowed, heart-shaped clypeus with pointed apex (narrowly truncate in S. similis ), labial palpi with fused second and third segments, frons regularly rounded, pronotal carina regularly rounded or sinuous with raised median part, mesoscutum without a posteromedian raised area, metanotum with rounded protuberances, mesepimeron projecting, posterior face of propodeum with a basal depression and a longitudinal carina, propodeum with transverse striae (absent in S. proserpina ), T1 trapezoidal, S1 with arched carina between narrow and enlarges parts, S1 with flattened posterolateral corners, S2 evenly convex in lateral view, tarsal claws with triangular basal lobe, prestigma three times as long as pterostigma, F11 of male short and conical and not reaching apex of F8, male vertex strongly enlarged, apical portion of aedeagus narrow and parallel sided in ventral view, ventral lobe od aedeagus serrate, distal lobe of digitus narrow.
