Genus Metaphire Sims & Easton, 1972

Metaphire Sim & Easton, 1972: 215 .

Type species. Rhodopis javanica Kinberg, 1867 , by monotypy

Distribution. The genus is widely distributed in the Oriental region, from Japan through to the Indo-Australian archipelago ( Sims & Easton 1972: 215; Blakemore 2002).

Remarks. Members of the genus can be easily recognized by the presence of intestinal caeca at or near xxvii, the presence of copulatory pouches and the absence of micronephridia on the spermathecal ducts. About 180 nominal species have been described ( Blakemore 2002, 2008a), and 55 species have been recorded in Vietnam.
