Tetragonotheca helianthoides L.
status

Tetragonotheca helianthoides Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 903. 1753.

"Habitat in Virginia." RCN: 6655.

Replaced synonym of: Polymnia tetragonotheca L. (1767) , nom. illeg.

Lectotype (Reveal in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 93. 1993): Clayton 97 (BM-000051150).

Generitype of Tetragonotheca Linnaeus.

Current name: Tetragonotheca helianthoides L. ( Asteraceae ).

Note: Turner & Dawson (in Sida 8: 299. 1980) indicated that they had seen a photograph of "Gronovius 301", which they regarded as the type. However, Gronovius 301 is associated with Heuchera americana , and there is no p. 301 in Gronovius’ Flora Virginica. Reveal’s choice of Clayton 97 (BM) as type is accepted here.
