Diagnosis: The following characters were extracted from Londt’s (1999) key to Afrotropical stenopogonine genera and serve as a brief generic diagnosis.Anatergites setose (a character effectively dividing the subfamily into two distinct groups); antennal postpedicel lacking a distinct style, and tipped with a small pit enclosing a sensory spine (this feature is shared only by Microstylum Macquart, 1838 ); facial swelling occupying lower three-quarters of face, entirely setose; presutural dorsocentral macrosetae well developed; vein M 1 not strongly arched anteriorly; postmetacoxal membrane long setose (these last few characters are used to separate the genus from Microstylum ).
