Type material. Orphinus apicalis : Holotype (male): „Java, collection Le Moult“ [printed label] / „Type“ [handwritten label] / „ Orphinus apicalis Pic “ [handwritten label] / „Type“ [red, printed label]. Holotype deposited in MNHN. Orphinus rufofasciatus : Holotype (female): „Los Banos, P.I., Baker“ [printed label] / „Type“ [handwritten label] / „rufofasciatus n sp“ [handwritten label] / „Type“ [red, printed label]. Holotype deposited in MNHN.
Remarks. Pic (1918) described the species Orphinus apicalis from Java; he next (1924) described the same species as Orphinus rufofasciatus from Luzon. According to the study of type material both these species are identical. Orphinus rufofasciatus is therefore junior synonym of Orphinus apicalis .
Distribution. This species is known from Java, Philippines: Luzon and Sumatra.
