Bembecia handiensis ( Rämisch, 1997) View in CoL

8 exuviae— 3 males, 5 females ( Morocco 2004).

Length and width: 10.03–16.21 mm × 2.57–4.38 mm (average: 12.5× 3.2 mm).

Frons depressions not large, but distinctly wrinkled, frontally ended by a wrinkled mound. Frontal setae situated behind level of lateral angles of frons in dorsal view ( Fig. 4a View FIGURE 4 ). Head projection blade elongated, pointed and distinctly curved in lateral view. Frons rises at a slight angle from projection blade ( Fig. 4b View FIGURE 4 ). Clypeal setae Cl 2 close to each other. Distance between setae Cl 2 approximately 2× greater than distance of C1 2 from Cl 1. Labrum very wide and rounded at end. Mandibles wide. Postclypeus separated from labrum by a convex rim ( Fig. 4c View FIGURE 4 ). End of abdomen in ventral view heart-shaped. Cremaster elongated, pointed at end. Cremaster relatively roundly pointed at end. Anal suture distinctly shorter than cremaster in male, longer in female. Anal area slightly convex and strongly elevated at the end in lateral view ( Fig. 4d View FIGURE 4 ).

Diagnosis. End of abdomen in ventral view heart-shaped, similar to B. lomatiaeformis , however in B. handiensis the cremaster is much longer than the anal suture.

Biology. Univoltine. The larvae live in the stems and roots of Ononis natrix subspecies ramosissima (Desf.) Batt and Lotus lancerottensis Webb & Berthel. (Fabaceae) .

Distribution. Fuerteventura, Morocco ( Laštůvka & Laštůvka 2001).
