Notes.
This species is restricted to Montagne d’Ambre and tsingy habitats in the Ankarana Special Reserve. It has somewhat anisophyllous terminal leaves like C. thouarsianus , but the calyx of the pistillate flowers is much larger and more accrescent in fruit, with a long pedicel. Plants vary considerably in pubescence, with some hirsute stems in the type of C. thouarsianus var. macrocalyx . Quoting from Radcliffe-Smith (2016), "The admittedly rather cumbersome name, of 10 syllables & 24 letters, can be justified on the grounds of the distinctive minute ogivaliform marginal glands to be found on the otherwise entire leaf-margins of this species. The name is not occupied in the genus." No surprise there!
