Trifolium campestre Schreb. |
status |

Trifolium procumbens Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 772. 1753, nom. utique rej.
"Habitat in Europae campestribus." RCN: 5679.
Type not designated.
Original material: Herb. Linn. No. 930.62 ( LINN) ; Herb. Linn. No. 930.61 ( LINN) ; [icon] in Ray, Syn. Meth. Stirp. Brit., ed. 3: 330, t. 14, f. 3. 1724.
Current name: Trifolium campestre Schreb. ( Fabaceae : Faboideae ).
Note: Stearn (in Biol. J. Linn. Soc. 5: 12. 1973), in an account of Linnaeus’ Öland and Gotland journey of 1741, treated Hoburg in Gotland as the restricted type locality, noting the existence of 930.63 (LINN) which was annotated by Linnaeus as from Gotland. Stearn noted that the name had been treated as a nomen ambiguum, and Turland & al. (in Taxon 45: 551. 1996) subsequently successfully proposed the name for rejection.
