Type species. Achlyodes cyrna Mabille, 1895 View in CoL .
Definition. The newly expanded genus Quadrus Lindsey, 1925 View in CoL (type species Papilio cerialis Stoll, 1782 ) can be divided into eight clades at the subgenus level in the tree ( Fig. 1 View Figure 1 ). In addition to the nominotypical subgenus, two of these clades correspond to traditional subgenera, previously treated as genera: Ouleus Lindsey, 1925 View in CoL (type species Achlyodes fridericus Geyer, 1832 View in CoL ) and Zera Evans, 1953 View in CoL (type species Achlyodes zera Butler, 1870 View in CoL ), and five clades represent new subgenera. One of these new subgenera keys to E.37.1c in Evans (1953) and is distinguished from its relatives by mostly dark wings without blue, no tibial tuft in males, hind-tibiae with two pairs of spurs, and uncus tip tapered to a point. In DNA, a combination of the following nuclear genomic base pairs is diagnostic: aly84.28.1:T2136A, aly84.28.1:G2577A, aly203.14.2:T24C, aly203.14.2:T54C, aly1656.40.1:A1276G.
Etymology. The name is a feminine noun in the nominative singular, tautonymous with the type species name.
