Tydeus caryae n. sp. ( Figs. 1017 View FIGURES 10 17 )

DIAGNOSIS: Dorsal setae long and serrated with trichobothrium sci smooth and subequal in length to vi, ve, c 1 and d but clearly shorter than rest of dorsal setae, striae Ushaped between setae d, ft’ on tarsus I much shorter than ft" and empodial claws absent.

FEMALE (5 specimens)

Length of idiosoma including gnathosoma 356 (315372) and width 227 (217236).

Dorsum ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 10 17 ) Striae Ushaped between d. Dorsal setae long and serrated becoming progressively longer towards posterior. Trichobothrium, sci, smooth and subequal in length to prodorsal setae vi and ve and opisthosomal setae c 1 and d but clearly shorter than rest. Length of setae: vi 35 (3844), ve 38 (3841), sci 38 (3841), sce 44 (4450), c 1 38 (35 41), c 2 50 (5054), d 41 (3841), e 50 (5054), f 1 50 (5057), f 2 50 (5457), h 1 50 (4450), h 2 50 (4150). Slitlike lyrifissures ia between setae c 1 and d and im between d and e.

Venter ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 10 17 ) Striae longitudinal between ventral setae. Epimeral formula and anogenital setae similar to those of T. kabutarahangiensis .

Gnathosoma ( Figs. 1213 View FIGURES 10 17 ) Partly covered by prodorsum. Setal formula of palp (tarsusgenu), 6(1)22, tarsus with p ' short, stout and blunt distally, ba very short ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 10 17 ). Movable cheliceral digit (19) subequal in length to palptarsus (22) ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 10 17 ). Length of palp 60 (63).

Legs ( Figs. 1417 View FIGURES 10 17 ) Length of legs IIV: I 239 (233252), II 211 (211233), III 230 (224236), IV 243 (239265).

Empodial claws absent. Solenidion I shorter than width of segment, II very short, difficult to find. Tarsus I with tc and ft setae similar to those of T. kabutarahangensis . Setae ft' much shorter than ft ". Seta k on tibia I very short and forked ( Fig.14 View FIGURES 10 17 ). Most leg setae serrated.

Leg setal formulae as follows: tarsi 8 (1)6(1)55; tibiae 3+ k 222; genua 3211; femora 3211; trochanters 1010; coxae 2131.

TRITONYMPH (4 specimens)

Dimensions: Length (including gnathosoma) 321324, width 198202, leg I 139161, leg II 126139, Leg III 135151, Leg IV 145161, palp 44, vi 1922, ve 2225, sci 32, sce 2528, c 1 19, c 2 2832, d 2022, e 25, f 1 2528, f 2 2532, h 1 2228, h 2 2225.

Tritonymph differs from female in that anogenital area has four pairs of genital and four pairs of aggenital setae and two pairs of anal setae, genital slit replaced by two pores. Leg chaetotaxy similar to that of female. Setae h 12 and ps 1 may be slightly spatulate distally.

REMARKS: This species is similar to T. longisetosus (ElBagoury and Momen, 1988) (junior homonym of T. longisetosus Kuznetzov and Zapletina, 1972 ). It only differs from the Egyptian species in that the trichobothrium, sci, is subequal to some but shorter than most dorsal body setae, opposed to longer than all dorsal setae in T. longisetosus . It further differs in that opisthosomal striae are longitudinal between d instead of transverse as in T. longisetosus . Orthotydeus longisetosus ElBagoury & Momen is a junior homonym of Tydeus longisetosus Livshitz et al. (1972) . Therefore we wish to suggest the following name for the species of ElBagoury & Momen (1988), viz. T. momeni nom. nov.

ETYMOLOGY. The species name is derived from the Greek name for Walnut "Karyon".

TYPE MATERIAL: Holotype female and one paratype female from Juglans regia L., College of Agriculture, Hamadan, 23 Aug. 2001, M. Khanjani; three paratype females and four paratype tritonymphs from Juglans regia, Tuiserkan , 2328 Nov.1998, T. Husseini.
