Description. Colour orange; apices of mandibles black; abdomen black, often with brownish base of first ventrite, appendages and extreme posterior margin of all ventrites.

Measurements. Male: 7.60-9.30 mm; female: 7.80–10.70 mm.

Male ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7 – 9 ). Labrum transverse, anterior margin slightly concave. Interocular space narrow, 0.88 times as wide as transverse diameter of eye. Length ratio of antennomeres 1 to 11 equals 32-9-25-30 -30-29-29-27-27-25-28.

Pronotum 1.38 times as broad as long, widest at anterior quarter. Anterior margin almost straight.

Elytra shiny, 2.15 times as long as wide and 0.65 times as long as body; apex right-angled, tips slightly protruding.

Protarsomere 1 enlarged, 1.15 times as wide as protarsomere 2. Width of protarsomere 1 highly variable, being relatively slender to very wide (length/width ratio 1.55-1.85). Length ratio of protarsomeres 1–4 equals 22-17-9- 19. Metatarsomere 1 enlarged, 1.55 times as wide as metatarsomere 2. Width of metatarsomere 1 varies from relatively slender to very wide (length/width ratio 1.65-2.30). Length ratio of metatarsomeres 1–4 equals 30-19-12-27.

Abdominal processes short, triangular, connected basally, reaching base of ventrite 4, ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ). Median plate of last ventrite with distinct median ridge and two large lateral depressions.

Median lobe of aedeagus symmetrical, long, narrow, parallel-sided, apex triangular with rounded tip ( Fig. 23 View FIGURES 18 – 23 ).

Female. Interocular space wide, 1.80 times as wide as transverse diameter of eye. Elytra dull. All first tarsomeres shorter and thinner than in male. Last ventrite strongly rounded, in some specimens with indistinct angulation laterally ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 26 – 32 ). Spermatheca: cornu moderately curved with apical part slightly enlarged, proximal spermathecal duct bent in middle ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 33 – 39 ).

Differential diagnosis. Basally fused abdominal appendages differentiate H. konstantinovi sp. nov., H. mindanense and H. philippinense from all other Hoplasoma species in the Philippines ( Figs 11, 14, 15 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ). H. philippinense can be separated easily from the other two species by its black abdomen (abdomen orange in H. konstantinovi sp. nov. and H. mindanense ). Median lobe of aedeagus is long and narrow and cannot be confused with the same in any other Philippine species. Posterior margin of last female ventrite is strongly rounded (or with indistinct angulation laterally) in H. philippinense ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 26 – 32 ). Only in H. mindanense the last female ventrite is similarly shaped ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 26 – 32 ). However, the distinct lateral angulations and the orange color of the abdomen are useful in separating females of H. mindanense from that of H. philippinense .

Distribution. The Philippines (Luzon). Identity of the specimen from Panaon Isl. is doubtful. The specimens from Sulawesi and Corea are either mislabelled or accidentally transported.

Comments. The ending of the species name has been modified as “ philippinense ” to agree in gender with the generic name.
