MYOPINAE MACQUART, 1834 View in CoL
Type genus Myopa Fabricius, 1775: 798 . Included tribes: Myopini , Thecophorini trib. nov. Uncontroverted morphological autapomorphies: basisternum short, narrow, single sclerite (47); veins Sc and R 1 fused before reaching costa (73). A double row of black spines is present on the ventral surface of all femora (52) in all members of Myopinae ; this character state is also observed in Baruerizodion and Robertsonomyia + Zodiomyia .
Gibson et al. (2012) recover Myopinae View in CoL as monophyletic with the same set of apomorphic character states, but only include representatives of Myopa View in CoL , Thecophora View in CoL , and Pseudoconops View in CoL . They add the following additional apomorphic character state for those taxa: two, separate, anterior arms on the hypandrium. Macquart (1834) originally described Myopariae, including Myopa View in CoL , Stachynia [now Dalmannia View in CoL ], and Zodion View in CoL , with the following diagnostic characters: veins R 4+5 + M not petiolate; alula small; prementum elongate; labellum sometimes elongate and folded back along prementum. In the present analysis, both petiolate and nonpetiolate states of vein R 4+5 + M are observed in genera of Myopinae View in CoL . The prementum in Myopinae View in CoL is in the state plesiomorphic to Conopidae View in CoL . The elongate and ventrally directed labellum is an autapomorphy of Conopidae View in CoL .
In addition to the present members of Myopini View in CoL and Thecophorini , previous classifications also included genera presently placed within Dalmanniinae View in CoL , Sicinae, and Zodioninae within Myopinae View in CoL . See discussions of those subfamilies for details in distinguishing the members of each respective subfamily.
