Australophiotaenia  sp. 10

Syn. Ichthyotaenia  sp. of Johnston (1910)

Host. Lowland copperhead, Denisonia superba (Günther, 1858)  [now Austrelaps superbus (Günther, 1858)  ] ( Ophidia  : Elapidae  ).

Distribution. Australia (Sydney).

Material studied. None.

Remarks. Johnston (1910) reported this cestode as Ichthyotaenia  sp. from D. superba  in the Sydney District. In 1912, he stated that the cestodes were conspecific with those found in Pseudechis  australis— see Johnston (1912). However, this assumption was based only on the morphological similarity of tapeworms from both hosts. Based on the presumably strict host specificity of species of Australophiotaenia  in Australia, this cestode may also represent another species. No voucher material is known to exist.
