An Afrotropical species whose adults have been found on Artiodactyla : Bovidae , Carnivora : Canidae and Felidae , and Perissodactyla : Equidae ; nymphs alone have been collected from Rodentia : Muridae . There are no records of Rhipicephalus capensis causing human parasitism.

Note: there are a number of confusing descriptions of the female of Rhipicephalus capensis , as discussed by Feldman-Muhsam (1960), and we treat the description of the female in Feldman-Muhsam (1960), who used laboratory-reared material, as the first for this species. Walker et al. (2000) stated that adults of Rhipicephalus capensis , Rhipicephalus follis and Rhipicephalus gertrudae have been confused with each other; therefore, many earlier redescriptions of Rhipicephalus capensis have not been included in the lists above.
