73. Haemaphysalis juxtakochi Cooley, 1946 .

A Neotropical species with a few records in the Nearctic Region, whose adults are usually found on Artiodactyla : Cervidae . All parasitic stages have been collected from Cervidae , Artiodactyla : Bovidae and Tayassuidae , and Lagomorpha : Leporidae ; adults and nymphs have been recovered from Artiodactyla : Suidae , Carnivora : Canidae , and Perissodactyla : Equidae ; adults alone have been taken from Mammalia (several orders), and Passeriformes : Thraupidae . Immature stages have been found on Carnivora : Procyonidae , Didelphimorphia : Didelphidae , Pilosa : Myrmecophagidae , and Rodentia (several families), as well as Accipitri-formes: Accipitridae , Galliformes : Cracidae , and Passeriformes (several families) ( Esser et al. 2016 a, Guglielmone & Robbins 2018). Haemaphysalis juxtakochi is a sporadic parasite of humans.

Note: Cooley (1946) described Haemaphysalis juxtakochi as a species different from Haemaphysalis kochi , but, in fact, this author gave a new species epithet to a preoccupied name and redescribed the male and female of Haemaphysalis juxtakochi , already described by Aragão (1908a) under the name Haemaphysalis kochi , a synonym of Haemaphysalis juxtakochi , as discussed in Kohls (1960b). The name Haemaphysalis kochi of Aragão (1908a) was preoccupied by Haemaphysalis concinna kochi of Neumann (1905) and changed to Haemaphysalis kohlsi by Aragão and Fonseca (1951); however, the latter name became a synonym of Haemaphysalis juxtakochi of Cooley (1946) after the study of Kohls (1960b).
