Note: Haemaphysalis erinacei Pavesi, 1884 has priority over Haemaphysalis erinacei Feldman-Musham, 1951 , which is a synonym of Haemaphysalis erinacei Pavesi, 1884 . The female of Haemaphysalis erinacei described by Pavesi (1884) does not belong to Haemaphysalis , as explained in Feldman-Muhsam (1953); therefore, translations of the description of the female of Haemaphysalis erinacei by Pavesi (1884), as in Neumann (1897) , are not included in the above lists. There are also several redescriptions of subspecies of Haemaphysalis erinacei that are not included in our lists. Morphological and molecular differences among populations, as described in Filippova et al. (1993), Filippova (1997) and Hornok et al. (2016c), are strong indicators that more than one taxon may be represented under the name Haemaphysalis erinacei . See also Haemaphysalis cooleyi and Haemaphysalis pedetes for their confusion with Haemaphysalis erinacei .
