104. Haemaphysalis muhsamae Santos Dias, 1954b View in CoL .
An Afrotropical species whose adults have been found on Carnivora : Felidae , Herpestidae and Mustelidae , and Rodentia : Muridae following the host profile detailed in Tomlinson et al. (2018), rather than the profile proposed in Guglielmone et al. (2014) and Guglielmone and Robbins (2018). There are no bona fide records of Haemaphysalis muhsamae feeding on humans.
M: Santos Dias (1954b), under the name Haemaphysalis muhsami , and amended in Santos Dias (1962)
F: Santos Dias (1955b), under the name Haemaphysalis muhsami

Note: Santos Dias (1954b) described the male, female and nymph of Haemaphysalis muhsamae , but Santos Dias (1955b) corrected himself concerning the female and nymph used in the original description, which were in fact Haemaphysalis leachi indica (a synonym of Haemaphysalis indica ). He then redescribed the female and nymph of Haemaphysalis muhsamae from new material collected in Mozambique ( Santos Dias 1955b). Camicas et al. (1972) consider Haemaphysalis muhsamae a synonym of Haemaphysalis spinulosa , while Kolonin (2009) excluded Haemaphysalis muhsamae from his list of Ixodidae of the world. Apanaskevich et al. (2007) state that Haemaphysalis muhsamae has been treated as a synonym of Haemaphysalis spinulosa for a long time and promised to deal with this problem, which was addressed in the study of Tomlinson et al. (2018), who redescribed the male and female of Haemaphysalis muhsamae while stating that the description of its nymph requires confirmation. Hoogstraal (1956a) and Elbl and Anastos (1966d) redescribed the male and female under the name Haemaphysalis leachi muhsami , but Tomlinson et al. (2018) are not confident that those redescriptions represent bona fide Haemaphysalis muhsamae .
