31. Amblyomma cruciferum Neumann, 1901 View in CoL .

A Neotropical species known only to parasitize Squamata : Iguanidae .

M: Neumann (1901)

F: Bequaert (1932)

N: Neumann (1901)

L: unknown

Redescriptions

M: Robinson (1926), Voltzit (2007); see note below

F: Voltzit (2007); see note below

N: none

Note: Voltzit (2007) described this species from ticks allegedly collected in Brazil but bearing Puerto Rican locality data. A comparison of the original description of the female of Amblyomma cruciferum in Bequaert (1932) with the corresponding description in Voltzit (2007) reveals differences in scutal ornamentation, the shape of the prosoma, the porose areas and the spurs of coxa II-IV. Additionally, Neumann (1901) and Robinson (1926) described the type male of Amblyomma cruciferum as having one spur on coxa IV, but Voltzit (2007) described the male as having two spurs on coxa IV; otherwise, these descriptions of the male are similar. See also Amblyomma torrei for a discussion of the difficulties involved in morphologically separating that species from Amblyomma cruciferum .
