Remarks. Mistshenko (1951a: 519) described P. gotvendicus rectus (given here as P. opacus rectus ) and distinguished it from his P. gotvendicus gotvendicus (given here as P. opacus rectus ) by the pointed fastigium and flat vertex, but these characters are present only in the holotype of P. rectus , are variable in the paratypes. Actually there is no difference between the paratypes of “ P. gotvendicus rectus ” and Mistshenko’s “ P. gotvendicus gotvendicus ” ( P. opacus rectus ).

This subspecies has strongly variable convexities of pronotum and abdominal tergites even in the same locality such as the populations of Kirkuk and Sulaymaniah, and Sulaymaniah and Penjwin. The hind tibia of this subspecies is mainly black, but it is possible to see blackish-red tibia or strongly raised pronotum and abdominal tergites or much less convex forms in these populations, but all of them are undoubtedly the same taxon.

All specimens identified as P. gotvendicus gotvendicus by Mistshenko in the ZIN belong to this subspecies. The types of the true P. gotvendicus have been studied and it is a very different species. Moreover P. gotvendicus and P. opacus are given in different species groups herein (see also P. opacus opacus above).

Ihsan & Donskoff (1988) probably erroneously wrote this subspecies on the pages 15 and 21. They besides reported Paranothrotes ornatus in another part of the paper (on the pages 22, 24, 29 and 30- Figures and key).

It is new for Turkey.
