Eremopeza kashmirensis Ünal View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Figs. 10 View FIGURES 6 – 16 , 168–171 View FIGURES 168 – 183 , 839 View FIGURE 839 )

Type locality. Kashmir: Gilgit, Jaglote. Holotype: male (NHMUK).

Material examined. KASHMIR: Gilgit, Jaglote, 27.6.1962, 1♂ (Holotype) (det. V. M. Dirsh, 1963 as Eremocharis granulosa subsp.) (NHMUK).

Description. Male (Holotype): Body relatively stout ( Fig. 168 View FIGURES 168 – 183 ). Fastigium of vertex sloping ( Fig. 170 View FIGURES 168 – 183 ). Vertex ( Figs. 169, 171 View FIGURES 168 – 183 ) between the eyes narrow, 2.2 times narrower than vertical diameter and 1.6 times narrower than transversal diameter of eye. Eye large and oval, 1.4 times longer than wide and 1.3 times longer than subocular groove. Preocellar foveola ( Fig. 171 View FIGURES 168 – 183 ) rounded, slightly smaller than the lateral ocellus; supraocellar and supraocular foveolae indistinct. Antenna filiform, a big part broken of. Prozona ( Figs. 169, 170 View FIGURES 168 – 183 ) of pronotum with small tubercles, roof-shaped, intersected by two transversal sulci, without lateral carinae, with grooved median carina; very slightly (1.04 times) longer than metazona, anterior margin protruded and narrowly rounded, slightly convex in lateral view; metazona of pronotum ( Figs. 169, 170 View FIGURES 168 – 183 ) with large, sparse and blunt tubercles, almost flat, with weak median carina slightly grooved anteriorly; lower than prozona and straight in lateral view, posterior margin almost triangular but with clearly rounded apex. Tegmina ( Fig. 168 View FIGURES 168 – 183 ) 4 times longer than wide, reaching slightly beyong the apex of hind femur. Hind wing ( Fig. 168 View FIGURES 168 – 183 ) with median and apical dark band and spot; basal part yellow; median band narrow in anterior half, distinctly widened and incurved in posterior half, not touching the hind margin of wing; two apical lobes with a large dark spot. Hind femur slender, 3.9 times longer than its height, dorsal margin finelly serrated, slightly convex in proximal part, gradually sloping towards genicular lobes, ventral margin convex along its length; preapical narrowing (2.1 mm) distinct, genicular lobes 3.1 mm. Hind tibia with 10 inner and 10 outer spines including internal and external apical spines; dorsal margin hairy. Subtympanal lobe almost rectangular, covering 1/3 of tympanum. Mesosternal interspace almost 2 times wider than its length and slightly wider than mesosternal lobes. Prosternum not raised, slightly swollen, with a thin carinate margin. Arolium very narrow and short, reaching almost 1/3 of claws. Apical valves of penis short, dorsal valves of cingulum slightly longer than penis ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 6 – 16 a); tumida of zygoma distinct; tumida of cingulum carinate vertically ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 6 – 16 a); arch of zygoma rectangular ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 6 – 16 b); apodemes quite wide, without apical notch; basal valves of penis narrow, basal end strongly curved outwards ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 6 – 16 a, b); posteromedian projection of epiphallus very distinct, pseudolophi strongly separated, with 13–17 spines ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 6 – 16 c).

Female: Unknown.

Coloration. Body creamish straw brown, with reddish brown stains, black and brown spots. Dorsal surface of head and pronotum pale reddish brown with whitish tubercles. Tegmina cream, covered by many large brown spots. Hind wing pale yellow, with a large median pale brown band and a large apical spot. Outer surfaces of hind femur and tibia with irregular black and brown spots. Inner surface of hind femur mainly pale dark blue with some yellowish-cream stains and a preapical transversal band, ventral surface pale dark blue. Inner surface of hind tibia and inner half of dorsal surface pale dark blue with inner spines, outer half of dorsal surface turning to body color with outer spines; just before the basal end with a transversal yellowish band, apical end yellowish cream. Tarsus yellowish-cream.

Diagnosis. This new species is easily distinguished from all known Eremopeza spp. by the shape of pronotum with long prozona which is almost as long as metazona, the shape of the dark band on the hind wing and the coloration of hind legs. Its hind wing colors and the bands are similar to E. bicoloripes (Moritz) , E. cinerascens afghana (Uvarov) and somewhat E. cinerascens cinerascens (Stål) , but, the very narrow anterior part of median band, the pale yellow basal disc (anterior part of median band clearly wider in these species, the disc much more bright yellow in E. bicoloripes and E. cinerascens afghana and yellowish-green in E. cinerascens cinerascens ), the shape of pronotum, the shorter tegmina and the hind leg colors (basal 2/3 part of hind tibia blue, apical part yellow or orange, inner and ventral surfaces of hind femur body color in E. bicoloripes ; hind legs yellow or orange in E. cinerascens afghana and E. cinerascens cinerascens , without blue color in E. cinerascens cinerascens ). It is somewhat near to E. gibbera (Stål) s.l., E. reducta and E. angusta by the dark blue hind legs, but this similarity is superficial, because the structure of pronotum (median carina of pronotum strongly raised also in metazona in E. gibbera s.l., E. reducta and E. angusta ), the color and the shape of dark bands of hind wings, and the shorter tegmina are very different.

Measurements (mm). Holotype (male): body length 30.8; pronotum length 9.5 (prozona 4.8, metazona 4.7); pronotum height 7.5; tegmina length 29.2; tegmina width 7.3; hind femur length 16.7; hind femur height 4.7.

Etymology. This new species is named after “Kashmir” where it was collected.

Remarks. Dirsh identified this specimen in 1963 as “ Eremocharis granulosa subsp.?”, because of its pronotum structure. But, the shape of phallic complex clearly belongs to the genus Eremopeza , as well as the shape of vertex, eye, legs, the shape of dark bands on hind wings.
