Euschoengastia pipistrelli Brennan

Orangeburg Co., Santee State Park, December 2000, ex Myotis austroriparius (Rhoads) , coll. W.K. Reeves.

This bat chigger was collected from the ear of a male M. austroriparius . Larvae of E. pipistrelli are found primarily on the face and ears of bats. Euschoengastia pipistrelli was the only chigger recovered from M. austroriparius in Indiana ( Whitaker & Mumford 1971). Both Loomis (1956) and Farrell (1956) reported that E. pipistrelli had been recovered only from bats.
