TYPE LOCALITY: Germany, Hessen, Hanau .
DISTRIBUTION: Europe (except Scandinavia); NW Africa; Turkey; Israel; Iraq; Crimea and Caucasus to Turkmenistan.
SYNONYMS: escalerae, spelaeus , tschuliensis , typus.
COMMENTS: Subgenus Myotis . Does not include araxenus or bombinus ; see Horâiek and Hanak (1984).
